#BEIJING, June 3 (Reuters) - China believes all efforts should be recognised in supporting peace measures around theRussia-Ukraine war, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday.China has never "fanned fire or fuelled the flames", said Mao Ning, addressing a question on a peace summit.According to areport, opens new tab, #Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has accused Russia and China of attempting to undermine his planned global peace summit in Switzerland in mid-June.China attaches great importance to its relations with Ukraine and remains its largest trading partner, Mao said, adding that China's position on the peace conference is very "open and transparent"."We believe that we can get the understanding and support of all parties."Switzerland is seeking a broad-based turnout from different parts of the world for the summit, which #Bern hopes will lay the groundwork for a peace process in Ukraine.Russia and China proclaimed a "no limits" relationship just days before Moscow launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 but Beijing has so far avoided providing actual weapons and ammunition for Russia's war effort.

#Ukraine may receive another #SAMP/T air defense system from Italy to protect itself from Russian shelling, according to Reuters.As Reuters informs, Italy may send a second SAMP/T air defense system to Ukraine in response to #Kyiv's request for greater assistance to protect against Russian missile attacks.SAMP/T is the only #European-made system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. It can track dozens of targets and intercept them simultaneously.According to preliminary data, Ukraine will receive the SAMP/T system, which is deployed in #Kuwait but is expected to return to Italy soon.SAMP/TThe SAMP/T, also known as #Mamba, is a medium-range ground-launched air defense system. It was developed by the #Franco-Italian EUROSAM GIE consortium.It is designed to protect battlefields and important tactical targets from air threats, including cruise missiles, manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, and short-range ballistic missiles (up to 600 km).Strengthening air defense in UkraineAfter intensified Russian shelling of Ukrainian territory, the Ukrainian air defense system was significantly depleted. But despite statements by the The White House about its “intense focus” on this issue, #Washington seems unwilling to find the launchers #Ukraine needs, the former spy said.“In total, the #Americans have 480 Patriot launchers; that is 80 batteries deployed around the world, most of which are currently in the United States,” said Ledwidge, who is also a lecturer in military strategy and law at the University of Portsmouth. “It should be easy to find a few launchers [for Ukraine], and more importantly, guidance systems. But they won’t. I think they [the Americans] are under too little pressure to do so.”The analyst sees the reason for the U.S. government’s sluggish response to Ukrainian requests for air defenses as the fact that America currently has other geopolitical priorities. Washington sees the destabilization of the Western Pacific as the biggest threat.The United States is also concerned about its own weapons stockpile.
